Terms of Service

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you ("you", "your") and Recherche Ventures e.U., DI Marc Fenz, Alfred-Coßmann-Gasse 14/2, 8054 Graz, Austria, company registry number FN 659947k, registry court Landesgericht für Zivilrechtssachen Graz ("we", "us", "our").

They govern your use of two products that we operate on one shared platform, one account and one backend:

• Expense Hunter: the mobile app for iOS and Android, the web app at app.expensehunter.com, and the website at expensehunter.com.
• Focused Capitalist: the web app at app.focusedcapitalist.com, the website at focusedcapitalist.com, and the MCP endpoint at mcp.focusedcapitalist.com.

Together with all related features, APIs and content, these are the "Service". Where a rule applies to only one product, it says so.

By creating an account, ticking the acceptance box, or signing in with Google or Apple, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which is part of this agreement. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the Service.

2. What the Service is

Expense Hunter records income and expenses. It offers multiple ledgers, budgets, categories and tags, multi-currency conversion, optional AI-assisted categorisation and voice entry, and the sharing of ledgers, categories or tags with other users.

Focused Capitalist is a net-worth logbook. It keeps dated snapshots of what you own and owe (positions in portfolios and sections), converts them into one reporting currency, prices market-traded holdings from third-party market data where possible, and shows the series over time. It can optionally be paired with an Expense Hunter ledger so that both products read the same account and, where you enable it, estimate how long your assets would sustain your spending ("runway").

Informational purposes only

The Service is a record-keeping tool for your personal organisation. It is provided for informational purposes only.

No financial, investment, legal or tax advice

We are not a financial advisor, investment firm, broker, bank, insurer or tax advisor, and the Service does not provide financial, investment, legal or tax advice. Any figure the Service shows (including net worth, valuations, gains and losses, after-tax estimates, attribution, runway and budgets) is a calculation from the data you entered and from third-party reference data. It may be incomplete, delayed or wrong. Nothing in the Service is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything, and no figure should be the sole basis of a financial decision. You are responsible for verifying every number and for your own decisions.

Market data and reference data

Prices, exchange rates, instrument details and similar reference data come from third-party sources and are provided as they arrive: they may be delayed, estimated, stale, missing or incorrect, and coverage may change or end without notice. Where the Service cannot price a holding it shows the last value it has, marked as such. You may enter or override values yourself.

Service tiers

The Service is offered on a freemium model. A basic tier is free; certain features (in Expense Hunter, for example, AI features and additional owned ledgers; in Focused Capitalist, for example, automated pricing and statement import) may require a paid subscription. We may change the features, usage limits and availability of any tier. Whatever the tier, we do not gate the data you entered: it stays readable, editable and exportable for as long as your account exists (see section 5).

3. Your account

One account, two products

Expense Hunter and Focused Capitalist share one user account. The same credentials sign you into both, and settings such as your email address, password, connected sign-in providers, security notifications and account deletion apply to both. Deleting your account deletes it for both products.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the minimum age required in your country of residence to enter into a binding contract. By creating an account you confirm that you meet this requirement.

Account creation

You need an account to use the Service. You can register with an email address, username and password, or sign in with Google or Apple. You agree to provide accurate and current information and to keep it up to date. You may optionally add a first name, last name or company name.

Your responsibilities

• Keep your password, sign-in providers and connected devices secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
• Keep the security notifications we send readable: they are how we tell you about new sign-ins, password or email changes and similar events.
• Keep your own backups of your data. The Service offers exports; the Service is not a backup, and we are not liable for data you did not export.

Usernames

We may change or reclaim a username if it infringes third-party rights, impersonates someone, is offensive, or otherwise breaches these Terms.

4. Your data and content

Ownership

You keep full ownership of everything you enter or upload into the Service: transactions, ledgers, positions, snapshots, valuations, notes, imported statements and any other information ("User Content").

Licence to us

So that we can run the Service, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, technically modify (for example, to format or convert currencies) and display your User Content, solely to:

• operate, provide, secure and improve the Service for you;
• show your User Content to you and to the users you explicitly share it with;
• send it, at your request, to the AI tools you connect (section 6) or, in Expense Hunter, to the AI processing you switch on;
• produce aggregated and anonymised statistics that contain no personally identifiable information.

Information visible to other users

Your username, and any avatar you set, can be visible to other users in connection with sharing features (Expense Hunter).

Prohibited data

The Service is built for financial records. Do not enter sensitive personal data that the Service does not need: no health, biometric or genetic data, no data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade-union membership, sex life or sexual orientation, and no data about criminal convictions, whether about you or anyone else. Use neutral labels ("medical bill", "loan to a friend") instead of names and conditions.

5. Your data is never gated

Whatever tier you are on, and whether or not a subscription lapses, everything you entered stays readable, editable and exportable for as long as your account exists. Features that were paid for simply stop running (for example, automatically priced positions keep their last value and are marked as carried). You can request a complete export of your data from your account settings at any time, and delete your account yourself.

6. Connected tools and API access (MCP)

The Service includes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets you connect third-party AI assistants and developer tools (for example, Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex) to your own data. Connections use OAuth: you authorise each client from your account, choose its scope (read-only or read and write, per product), and can revoke it at any time in your account settings.

• You control what leaves. A connected client can only read or change the data covered by the scopes you granted, and only while its authorisation is valid. Anything a client reads is transferred to that client and, from that moment, is governed by its operator's terms and privacy policy, not ours. Choose the tools you connect with care.
• Actions are yours. Anything a connected client writes (for example, a snapshot value or a new position) is treated as your own entry. Write actions are grouped into batches that can be reviewed and undone, but we cannot recover changes that fall outside that mechanism.
• Third-party tools are not ours. We do not operate, endorse or warrant any connected client, and we are not liable for what a client does with your data or for its availability.
• Do not use the API to circumvent tier limits, to scrape or bulk-transfer other users' data, or in ways that put unreasonable load on the Service. We may rate-limit or revoke access that does.

7. Sharing (Expense Hunter)

Expense Hunter lets you share ledgers, categories and tags, and their transactions, with other users. Focused Capitalist portfolios cannot be shared with other users today; the only link between products is the optional pairing of your own portfolio with your own ledger.

• Your responsibility. When you share User Content, you are responsible for having the rights and, where the data concerns other people, the consents to do so.
• Control. The user who creates a shared resource controls it and may transfer control within the Service.
• Disputes. We are not a party to any arrangement between users and have no obligation to mediate.
• Leaving. Data you contributed to a shared resource stays there for the other members when you leave or delete your account; your personal link to it is removed. Delete individual entries first if you do not want them to remain.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• do anything unlawful, including money laundering or fraud;
• breach, probe, disable or circumvent security, rate limits or access controls;
• reverse-engineer, decompile or otherwise try to obtain the source code of the apps or the Service, except where the law allows it regardless of this clause;
• upload or transmit malware or other harmful code;
• access other users' data without their authorisation;
• resell, rent, lease or sublicense the Service without our written permission.

9. Fees, payments and subscriptions

• Paid features. We may offer paid features as one-off purchases or recurring subscriptions. Prices, billing period and what is included are shown before you buy.
• Payment processors. Purchases are processed by third parties: today the Apple App Store and Google Play for Expense Hunter (through RevenueCat as our subscription backend), and, once available, a payment provider named at checkout for Focused Capitalist. We never see or store your card details. Their terms and privacy policies apply to the payment in addition to these Terms.
• Cancellation. Subscriptions bought through an app store are managed and cancelled through that store; a cancelled subscription runs to the end of the paid period.
• Right of withdrawal (EU consumers). If you are a consumer in the EU, you can withdraw from a purchase of digital content within 14 days without giving reasons. By asking us to start the paid service immediately (which happens when access is granted on purchase) you expressly agree that you lose that right once performance has begun.
• Price changes. We will announce price changes for recurring subscriptions in advance; they take effect from the next renewal.

10. Termination

By you

You can end this agreement at any time by deleting your account in the settings of either app. Because both products share one account, deletion applies to both.

By us

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if legally required, on prolonged inactivity after prior notice, on non-payment of fees for paid features, or if we discontinue the Service. Where reasonably possible we will give notice and time to export your data.

Effect

On termination your right to use the Service ends. We handle your data as described in the Privacy Policy and the GDPR: deletion on request, unless we must keep specific records for a legal reason (for example, accounting).

11. Warranties and liability

This limitation does not apply to damage caused by our intent (Vorsatz) or gross negligence (grobe Fahrlässigkeit), or to injury to life, body or health. For breaches of essential contractual obligations through slight negligence (leichte Fahrlässigkeit), our liability is limited to the typical, foreseeable damage. Mandatory consumer rights are not affected.

12. Data protection

How we collect and use personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which covers both products. Personal data is hosted on servers in the European Union.

13. Business transfers

If our business, or the part of it that operates Expense Hunter or Focused Capitalist, is acquired, merged or sold, your account and data may be transferred to the new owner. We will notify you before your personal data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may modify these Terms. For material changes we will give notice by email, in the apps or on our websites at least 30 days before they take effect, unless a shorter period is needed for legal or security reasons. If you do not agree, you may delete your account before the change takes effect; continued use after that date is acceptance.

15. Governing law and disputes

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Austria, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

Jurisdiction

Legal proceedings arising from these Terms are brought before the competent courts of Graz, Austria. If you are a consumer in the EU, this does not affect your mandatory right to sue, or be sued, in the courts of your country of residence.
